I need some serious help. I'm a 28yr single father of a 7yr. I just relocated for my job from Ohio about a week and a half ago. I'm really having trouble getting my daughter into school around here (She's in the 1 grade). I need a decent school and after school care to at least 6pm 6:30pm. I work downtown so I need time to drive through traffic to get her without be penalized for being late (I get off work about 5:30-6pm). So far all the schools I was looking at before I moved, don’t have room for her. We are currently extremely financially strapped so after school care needs to be affordable. Do anyone know of any programs that could help me. I currently have a friend that drove out here with me helping me out till I get this school and after school care thing straightened out, but they would like to go home. I don’t understand how people can transfer there kids into these schools and still function. It doesn’t seem like anyone is willing to work with me here. Please let me know what I can do!!!

You haven't mentioned where you are living..

I'm pretty sure public schools have to let your daughter in (it's the law that she be in school). Many public schools have after school programs/daycare type programs. Have you contacted any of the public schools in your area?

Public schools are not required to provide after school programs for all kids. If you are saying the public school can't take her period that is a different story. My heart does go out to you as there isn't many options. You can contact social services, but there are guidelines as to who qualifies for help. I dont' know what else to suggest..Again, it is not the school districts responsibility to provide after school care, especially when the hours are not in line with the hours they offer programs.
