I think it's hilarious that whenever someone says something they don't like about texas, texans will give you 100 reasons why you are wrong.

Now how about an actually poor (broke) state:

Missisisippi None federal Minimum wage applies

List of U.S. minimum wages - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

We have 50 states. Only 5 have higher minimum wages than California. 0$ an hour? LMAO!
but who cares what the min rate is in Ca when 15% of the people don't have any jobs..??? and many others are under employed or only working part time.

You should be thankful that Texans take so much time to educate others.

The people who are the most excited about Texas and rave about every quality and pound on the table if anyone says anything negative about Texas are not the native Texans, but rather those who have recently moved to the state.

There is a type of syndrome ( I have had it myself on occasion) that people who have high expectations get when they move to a new place. It clouds their judgment and makes them overlook even glaring problems with a new residence. People do not want to be disappointed with a new move. It takes a while for this to wear off, but it does eventually.

I am a native Texan living in CA who isn't bothered about anything in CA except for the cost of living, which unfortunately is a huge, big deal. I just tune out all the rest of the nonsense. I have lived three times in North Carolina, once (presently) in CA and most of my life (before ten years ago) in Texas in so many different areas of the state that I have a hard time remembering all of them. Don't get me wrong--I still love my home state.

Every place has positives and negatives and the decision about what makes sense for a particular person, at a particular time, depends on weighing the good and the bad points.

In addition, every place, including Texas and CA will change over time and not be the same state that you moved to ten years down the road.

Default Another opinion on relocating to TX

I was relocated to Dallas this year from CA. I really did move with an optimistic attitude, trying to find something resembling my home, like a neighboorhood with trees and water...still looking.
First, the good: Texas has obviously done something right to attract big business here and there are plenty of jobs for those willing to work. Its no secret California has serious problems now so I AM grateful to have my job, and at least I am in the U.S. and not relocating to another country, as plenty have had to do in moving here.
The people are nice, until they get in their cars. I think Dallas must have THE WORST drivers anywhere. Get out of the way if you want to live.
The bad: Other than horrible drivers, it is the ugliest place...flat, boring, dormant grass and trees make it look even worse... developers come in, cut down every tree and build huge homes on tight boring lots. Strip malls are plentiful, as are restaurants so get ready to step up on your consumer mentality. Go ahead and get yourself that hummer, full size commuter truck or Semi you've always wanted. Help yourself to that 2nd plate of BBQ , take up shopping as an endurance sport like everyone else.
The weather: SUCKS. Freezing cold rain, snow, wind, then right up to blazing hot with humidity. Despite having so many faithful citizens, God has obviously cursed Texas for some reason. Tornados, and yet no one has a cellar or safe room it seems- why?
When you hear the saying "Don't mess with Texas" heed the call and take the tip. There is no place that can match the beauty and climate of the Pacific NorthWest and I just can't get on board this train.
The happiest day of my life will be when I have the UHaul loaded up and leaving this place, never to return.
