I'm planning a trip for myself and a few friends to San Francisco, and I'm looking for a little advice on where to stay. We were planning on staying in a hotel somewhere outside the city, and driving in. On previous trips I've stayed in San Jose and Cupertino, and both were nice, but this time I'd like to be a little closer to the city. I'm not looking for anything too fancy, just a safe place to stay with some decent hotels. Any suggestions?

There are plenty of motels/hotels around SF airport and along El Camino Real (Hwy 82) in Millbrae near the airport. Here's an example: Best Western El Rancho Inn & Suites, Millbrae, California There are several BART stations in the area which can take you into downtown SF. You don't want to drive into SF - parking is very difficult. BART - Station List

I always recommend the Doubletree right outside the SF Airport, never had any problems. It's 79 a night on Orbitz.
