I'm not sure if anyone else has noticed this, but the local news stations in the Bay Area are the biggest sensationalists that I have ever watched in any local TV market. For example, I can't believe the way they constantly and openly trash Oakland. LA, DC, and not even Baltimore local news stations bash their respective cities the way it's done here. Also, the anchors and reporters here never hesitate to inject their own personal opinions into various news pieces, rather than just reporting the story. I've never watched local news before where the anchors so often find the need to add their own commentary.

Interesting, I never thought of it that way. When I first moved here back in the early 90's I used to think tht it was kind of quaint that they would "break" from their teleprompter/script/notes and add a little personal touch to stories. Back then it wasn't quite the bashings that you are referring to. i haven't watched any local news in ages, but I do remember blowing off channels due to stupid anchor comments in the past....

Miami is far worse when it comes to sensationalizing everything. At one point anytime a Haitian was seen coming on a raft they would spend an hour with overview shots and dramatic reporting on the story.
