Also since the economy has gone down my apartment complex has become more "shady" and the new tenants moving in are not at the level of caring concerned tenants as before. The new tenants have a lot more kids, and are moving into two bedroom apartments with at least 4 kids and more. They are “lower class” when it comes to manners and respect for their neighbors. Walking around the area I have noticed more people hanging out on the corners and staring down people. I think that maybe with more unemployment and people losing houses there are a lot more “bored” & mischievous people hanging around. Also a lot of section 8 apartments and trailer parks going further down Tully closer to the fairgrounds with scary looking characters hanging around the stores asking for money.

That isn't fair to equate people that lose their jobs and foreclose on their homes with being "shady" or "bored and mischievous" and "staring down people on the corner". Remember there but for the grace of God could go you to the unemployment line, or rental housing! Thankfully we have not lost our jobs, and we were able to purchase a home in the best time of housing prices in my adult life... but I no way look down on those that lost their jobs and have foreclosed on their homes.

That is right, people that complain about the people in San Jose have never lived in the Central Valley... or worse than that Texas! San Jose is great when it comes to the people. The housing costs suck though.

People who complain about the people in San Jose have never lived in any major city of the US (and a fair number of smaller cities, as you point out), where crime is a lot worse than here, except for maybe, Honolulu???

The housing costs really do suck. I've ranted many times that bureaucracy and NIMBY environmentalism have made housing costs higher than they need to be throughout the state.

Well what happened in Cupertino was the Taiwanese came over with all this money and prices went through the roof! I remember in 1990 we said "WOAH $375,000 we gotta sell, we will never see prices like this again!" LOL little did we know! Our neighbors were like "what! $375,000! Mabel call the realtor we are selling too and moving to Boise!" Many people don't realize that Cupertino used to be a blue collar area, mechanics, factory workers, electronics workers, cheap little houses built up fast, in fact in the late 60s and early 70s, some areas like Rancho Rincanda became quite sketchy and "bad". I remember my parents wouldn't allow me to play with the kids in Rancho Rincanada, I wasn't allowed down those scary streets to play on my bike. There were lots of bikers and hippies living in the poorer areas of Cupertino back then... Then boom, the Taiwanese came over with all that money, and Cupertino was never the same after that.

San Jose has consistently been rated the safest, or close to it, big city in America. Sure there are some areas on east side radiating for the King & Story intersection that could be called "shady." I've lived in thsi area for years though and I would say that the people there are not criminals or thugs, but mostly poor immigrant families that mean no harm.
