All you have to do is pass it and all it has to do is survives the inevitable court challenges from the unions, legislature and Jerry Brown who created the mess in the first place.

A lot of people make a lot of money not working. That's why those those city jobs are so popular.

We know - city employees doing the same thing we do (or less) in our organization get twice as much, and absurd benefits.

Just for the record, not all City employees get those fat pensions. Part time employees, mostly at the Library & Parks & Rec don't qualify for the pension benefits (even if they otherwise have benefits). This often doesn't get mentioned in these articles.

It is shame of San Jose residents to feed so many over-paid city employees.

Not the shame of residents. Like much of the state's financial funk, shame goes to politicos offering up ridiculous quid pro quo promises for votes, stuff whose payments come due long after politician is out of office.

I don't recall ever being allowed to vote on city employees' pay.

For better or worse, Mayor Reed's a star now. Measure passed 70-30.

Good stuff indeed, this should have national implications, but definitely California at the very least (San Diego passed something very similar, not exactly sure of the details). I can't wait til something like this shows up on a ballot in Los Angeles.
