Hi All

I am planning to relocate to northern cali in few weeks because of a new job. I found housing at apex apt (behind Great Mall) in milipitas. How is the commute from milipitas to stanford hospital? Is the area safe? If not, any suggestions on apartment rental for 1bd? I have heard mix reviews on milipitas. Pls help.

thanks

If you just google map it, it comes out to 30 minutes, which I think is in good/no traffic. If you hit typical rush hour traffic I'd say it's more like 45 min. There are several different ways you could get there which might possibly be faster, example 880 to 280.

What is your budget for housing? Have you already signed a contract? I don't know Milpitas very well but I wouldn't consider it dangerous. If you want to live closer you might consider Sunnyvale, Mountain View or maybe Palo Alto.

$2,200 should get you something pretty good (for a one bedroom), even in Silicon Valley.

You'd be taking 237->101. You'll be in with the traffic going to North 1st, Tasman, Moffet Park, Google, Palo Alto, and Stanford specifically. Tough goings without a carpool buddy.

The commute is not that great, but working at a hospital you will have strange hours and might be able to dodge the worst of it. If you can do it off-peak it's an easy enough drive. The rub is that you want to go in early rather than late because traffic jams on 101 through Mountain View commonly continue until noon.

BTW, Milpitas is nice enough. Safe. Very middle class.

But, and this an aside from your original question which may not matter to you, now or at all, all the usual social spots are elsewhere: downtowns SJ, Campbell, Los Gatos, Saratoga, or Palo Alto, or Santana Row. If you're in to exercise, Milpitas offers convenient access to bay-side trails. But, some of the best (personal opinion here) nature parks are in the south, west and south-west of the valley.

Why not just rent in Mountain View? Zillow is showing me plenty of apartments along El Camino Real that cost around $1800. You could save the money from being put towards rent and commuting costs.

There are some sketchy areas around Escuela, California Ave, etc. Always have been and that's pretty much the only reason why Mountain View would be affordable.

Well there's a few apartments in Palo Alto, Menlo Park, and Redwood City that fit OP's budget.
