Can't hold on to the past forever. But we can remember good times in Old Almaden:

Fortunately, they're preserving a little of this while this gets built around it:

I think they may have scaled down their original plan, but a search revealed no action scrapping the development.

I was just concerned about the appearance of the properties around it, but you are saying agricultural.

I wouldn't touch that property for $600K. First of all, that's not really Almaden Valley. Ref: Almaden Valley, San Jose, California Zip Code Boundary Map (CA)

Second, part of the reason you live in Almaden is to live in a well-kept neighborhood with white collar neighbors who have kids that your children go to school with. You won't get that there. Those are mostly small ranches with all manners of people going in and out.

Third, it's a complete dump. An average house in Almaden is in the $1M range. So if you put $200K in fixing up that place (optimistic), you still wouldn't have a house as nice as real Almaden nor a decent neighborhood. You would never recoup your investment. Save up 20% more and buy in Almaden proper.

Fourth, I believe that's located in the flood plane if the Calero Dam ever burst, say from an earthquake. Property is highly discounted in this area because of that. If you look at a topo map, you have the steep Santa Teresa Hills directly to the north which will act as a natural dam with your property essentially just below it.
