Sonic is fantastic, but their Fusion broadband isn't available everywhere - which includes my neighborhood in San Jose. If they can only offer you basic DSL over AT&T's wires (not even sure they still offer this - they offered it to me a couple years ago when I moved to San Jose), even their superb service can't offset the much higher speeds that Comcast or AT&T uVerse can offer.

What city do you live in, and what part of the city? The service isn't the same all over the south bay - it depends on where you live.

found another balldrop by comcast on local news on sfgate, regarding horrible outragoues attempt by comcast employee trying to woo back the cancelling customer. Commenters are saying they are getting webpass. It almost seems surreal.

I had also similar experience with AT&T internet disconnect, took me 4 days to go disconnect with those scumbags.
On both at&t and comcast web portal, they give customers easily available options to upgrade, change and move services but never put link to disconnect which is a dirty tactic. they always have you come to service centers or call the automated services.

It is really about time, people take action and be proactive against those big conglomerates.

I have had no issues with ATT in 3 different apartments - in both Santa Clara and Redding. And they keep making me deals when my contracts run out. Currently paying $28/month for the speed that's listed at around $60. Same price i was paying in Santa Clara. Comcast is too expensive, and I also don't like dealing with them. But, I haven't had any issues dealing with ATT myself. I just buy internet from them.

Original poster, if you use cable internet, by definition it is going through wires owned by the cable provider in your area, such as Comcast. Even if it is from an alternative cable internet provider, some money goes to comcast because they own the wire.

Alternatives would be the telephone provider in the area or fixed wireless.

Capitalism is great, it is the consequence of living in The Free West (the g7).

By fixed wireless I mean either tight beam Wi-Fi, 4g fixed wireless or satellite internet.
