Hi, fellow members. It's been a year since i posted my last thread and I am still looking for a place to rent around San Jose (I work in SJ) or any other city close by

Here are my numbers, I have an income of about approx 110k with a prior pending loan of around $600 / month. Car paid off and no other family commitments. Can I rent a studio (only condition, it should have an AC and maybe a washer dryer) and survive (though not scrounge) with that salary and maybe even save a little bit. Also looking for some apartment recommendations. Looking to move asap so any help would be appreciated .

No that's too low salary. You will definitely die from starving.

Omitting sarcasm... What's up people? Where is your common sense? Or you've just came from another planet? Ask any local bus driver, or cook, or school teacher how they could survive on $110,000.

A lot of people inside the Bay Area who survive on low incomes do so by tripling and quadrupling up in housing that is already owned by someone in their family, or in illegal in-law apartments.

The trick is to move into an apartment with rent control or rent from a home owner who won't raise your rent each year.

Freaking Google rent control in the Bay Area. And maybe hire someone to manage your finances if you can't figure out what 110K will get you, even in a high cost metro.

Yes, 110k is fine to get by. If you can't, then you should move. No place, not the Bay Area, is worth struggling economically for.

On 110k, you need to know that for your own apartment with the standards you indicate, you will have to pay 2k per month bare minimum, maybe 2500 if you want a great location.

It should be do-able. I don't think anyone with general middle class standards earning less than 90k should move here at all - but you clear the bar by a bit.

sfbay.craigslist.org is the place to search.

Thank you Chuck...so even with a pending loan payment of $600, you feel comfortable gauging the current rent / expenses in the bay area. Not sure why others are hating on me so much, it's hard finding your bearings in a new city.

Finally any rental apartment recommendations? Struggling to narrow down to one.

Well, people, who struggle with the living here, don't like someone like you with 100K+/yr to come to this place. Because that will cause rental/housing shoot upward.
You will be fine with the salary. After everything, you should take home ~ $2,500 per paycheck or more than $5,000 per month.
It's hard to suggest a place for you cause I/we don't know where is your job locate.
