Hi All!

This is my first post. I apologize in advance if this has been asked. I have looked through the threads and still feel conflicted.

I am moving from Michigan to the Bay Area for a tech job in MV. To complicate things, we will also be commuting to Silver Creek Sportsplex several times per week, which is in South San Jose, I believe.

I have narrowed my search down to an apartment in MV and an apartment in Campbell. They are both great options, but would one area be easier to commute to South San Jose? It seems like MV would be a straight shot, but Campbell is technically a shorter distance. I would not be traveling during the "typical" rush hours.

I know traffic can be awful in the Bay Area. Anyone have any thoughts?

Why are you not considering the city if San Jose?

Because I couldn't find a pet friendly apartment that was in our price range within walking distance to a company bus I did look though, because it is a great option.

Silver Creek Sportsplex--you're either doing roller hockey or soccer?--is at the furthest end of San Jose. If you have a game (or whatever) that requires driving during commute hours, that's gonna be brutal. Everyone and their mother takes 101 (or 85) southbound.

Also, bring Founders. You can't find that stuff here. Oddly, plenty of Vernor's, just not in Safeway stores (lots of Michigan transplants?).

Would it be easier coming from Campbell, then? It doesn't look like it would be very south from there.

You said you won't be traveling during peak hours, but northbound traffic into Mountain View has been backing up as late as 11:30 am, so you might have to adjust your definition of "typical" a little. This is true whether you're taking 101 or 85.

I won't be driving myself, I will be in a bus, so I don't care much about the commute to MV from Campbell. Its just the commute to South San Jose that I worry about. Clearly I would rather live in the town I work in, but if the commute to San Jose is significantly easier from Campbell, then that is probably the more responsible decision.

Driving from Campbell to South San Jose will definitely be much easier than driving from Mountain View to South San Jose.

It depend on the hours you are driving.
If you drive from MV to South San Jose in the morning, you are against the traffic. So it won't be the problem.
But if you drive from MV to South San Jose after 4 PM, you are with the traffic.

Caveat: Campbell doesn't have direct access to 85 or 280, so the OP would end taking 17 north or south. So, yes, easier, but with asterisks.
