Yes, I have (I was sharing with someone who had kids). But you missed my point : If the place they are renting is big enough to share, then you don't need to buy one as big - buy a smaller & less expensive home (go to zillow and look : there are plenty).

Now, there is the factor that if she is on a city planning comission, the law may require that she reside in said city. Many cities have such a law.

Still, there are places in Palo Alto with a rent lower than 6k/month. If it is just her and her husband, all they need is one room to rent in someone's apartment. Here's a two bedroom in Palo Alto for half the rent:

How many palo altans who bought a house in the 70s does it take to screw in a light bulb? 1. They bought their house for 25000 dollars and their house appreciated so much they can just hire someone to screw it in for them.

If anyone had any basic reading comprehension skills, you'd see that the author wasn't complaining about her situation.... they made choices that worked for them. The whole point of the letter was to highlight the dire situation faced by people who AREN'T 6-figure-earning-techies.

People who AREN'T 6-figure earning-techies have the choices NOT to live at PA.
