South San Jose, or evergreen area is nice too. Look to spend 2 to 3 million.

I live in South San Jose area, Santa Teresa hills with good schools - small houses start from $1 mln this season. So 2-3 mln for a regular size house is a little too much. This price is for upscale South Bay neighborhoods or brand new development.

I don't think GE is in San Jose. Maybe the OP means to say "San Jose area". OP, which town is your hubby going to be working in?

OP? More info needed, before we can help. Are you sure it's San Jose? What's the budget you'll be working with?

It's been nearly a week since the OP posted.

Being from the northeast originally (DC - and my parents are from Philly/Brooklyn), I can tell you that things are a little different here! Not only is the cost of housing now WAY more than CT and even most of NYC, but commuting isn't like what you're used to back east. Coming from CT you can take the train into NYC, and relax with a book or electronic device the whole way. Around here, especially if we're talking East Bay to South Bay, you pretty much HAVE to drive on some horribly congested freeways. Unless hubby is going to work odd hours, that can mean spending 1-2 hours in terribly slow traffic each direction. My sister currently commutes from the South Bay to Oakland, and literally bought an electric/hybrid car JUST so she can use the HOV lane. Even then it's over an hour each way, especially now that so many have HOV-acceptable vehicles. Not to mention the "party crashers" who just use those lanes anyway.

In other words, if you can afford the South Bay prices, I'd recommend getting as close to work as possible. I'm lucky enough to work odd hours, so traffic is a rarity for me... but even then I kept moving closer to my job, and now live a very doable 5-7 miles away (can do either freeway or surface streets). Makes life much more pleasant, imo.

You'll need a combined income of at least 300k a year, otherwise don't.

Congrats, you made the right decision. Even CEO candidates rejected 500k+ offers due to the cost of living.

That's a great decision. The crazy house market in San Jose will eat up all your money eventually.
