I purchased house in March 2007. In January 2008, the raining water into to garage. The roofing company determined that the leakage was not from the roof but from the cracked facial boards. The roofer also told me while he was standing inside the garage, he could clearly see the sky from the cracks in the facial board. I rechecked home inspection report from the purchasing package, and found the home inspector did not inspect the facial board that was accessible and visible. The inspector only mentioned old water stain on the sheetrock of inside the garage, but he failed to check outside the facial board. I called ASHI and CREIA for help, but found Home Inspectors of America was not certified by ASHI, nor CREIA. The repair cost $3000 include termites treatment.

Fascia boards are the wood members that are nailed to the end of roof rafters or trusses. It would be awfully hard to imagine that anyone could see the fascia boards from INSIDE the garage. If your home has no eaves (possible, but not a great architectural feature) the fascia boards would be right up against the exterior of the building.

Your home inspector probably checked the situation but found it unremarkable. If he called out the water stain in the garage, that should have been a clue for you to either ask him more questions are ask him or another contractor to determine what the cause is.

Termite treatment? On a fascia board? If you had termite damage up there, you have it in the walls below as well.

I'd trust a home inspector much more than a roofing contractor.
