I am planning to buy a house in Fremont in either Niles or Glenmoor. Which area do you think is better for families? A better value in general?
Any thoughts on the schools that these areas feed into? I notice Niles elementary seems to score better than Glenmoor and Mattos Elementary schools, but any other advice about the quality of the schools? What are the pros and cons of each area? Which area is more of a community? Thanks in advance..

Personally, I prefer Niles. I like the fact that it feels more like a separate town and not a part of Fremont. Geographically, Niles is somewhat separated from the rest of Fremont and it's managed to retain most of its charm.
I'm not an expert, but as far as I know, schools around Fremont are mostly comparable to each other. There are no bad schools that I'm aware of, just some that may be better than others.
As far as the main pros and cons that come to mind, Glenmoor is more conveniently located and has better freeway access. Niles is somewhat isolated from other parts of town and it takes a bit longer to get to other places. You'd probably find yourself doing most of your shopping in Union City which is a city I don't particularly care for at all.
In Glenmoor, you will probably find a bigger house with a bigger yard and will probably pay more. I think ultimately it will come down to personal preference. My wife's grandparents live in Niles and I love going underneath the train tracks and on to Niles Blvd. and driving through town. It's just a cool little town. It's one of the few downtown areas in the Bay Area that hasn't become pretentious and yuppy-fied. Glenmoor is more typical California suburbia and I like it as well...it just doesn't have the same character though.
