Been offered a great job within commuting distance of SFe and am in the preliminary stages of looking at real estate. My range is $200k-$299k, but would be most comfortable with something around the mid 2's.

I scouted the city on Saturday to get a feel for the layout (shopping area/traffic) to help me narrow down location options etc.

I'm not into living 10 feet from my neighbor, I'm not a fan of Pulte homes, and I'd like something less than 10 yrs old (if possible).

Any tips on location etc appreciated.

N8 - there are many nice homes in Eldorado in the $200s.

All the homes in Eldorado are on 1 - 2 acre lots, so you will not have neighbors right on top of you.

It may be difficult to find a home less than 10 years old, but most of the homes in Eldorado are good quality and have been kept up nicely. Eldorado has lots of amenities.

I don't know how far you want to be from town - Eldorado is 12 miles from Santa Fe and about a 15 - 20 minute drive on I-25.

I agree with Towanda. There is a whole lot of value for your money in Eldorado. You can definitely find homes within your budget there. Eldorado has a top-rated elementary/middle school, a very good super market, bank, post office, library, etc. Oh, and also a club house with an outdoor swimming pool.

For newer homes in that price range you could check out Rancho Viejo, but the lots a quite a bit smaller. One possible advantage to this subdivision is its close proximity to Santa Fe Community College. Shopping and other services however are not as convenient as in Eldorado.

I could recommend other newer developments, but their price point is higher so the above two might be your best choice. Give a holler if I can help.

Eldorado

My wife's commute into Santa Fe is 11 minutes from door-to-door.

One problem with reporting on the distance from Eldorado into town is what part of the community you live in. Eldorado is huge and spread out -- I live in the far west end -- the only outlet is on the east side of the subdivision -- so it takes me about 8 minutes to even get to the exits on Hwy. 285.

For anyone for whom driving time is a consideration, you could look at available hoimes in the eastern part of Eldorado and your driving time into Sants Fe would be less.

Is there anywhere in Eldorado that's close to trails/forest? Or is it more secluded?

Eldorado has its own wilderness area, which is solely for the use of Eldorado homeowners and property owners.

There are thousands of acres of hiking trails with four trailheads. Also horse riding trails.

Eldorado Community Preserve.

There is also a good wilderness hiking area off Hwy. 285 in the Galisteo Basin just about 5 miles south of Eldorado:

Galisteo Basin Preserve.

Eldorado istself contains many miles of paved walkways throughout the subdivision for resident's use.

And, from Eldorado (and nearby access points) you can easily get on the Rail Trail and walk or bike into Santa Fe.
