I will be in Santa Fe for about six weeks from mid December to end of January. I'm wondering what suggestions anyone might have about what to see and do both in Santa Fe and the surrounding areas while I'm there.

I'll be looking for a good place to practice yoga. Do people hike during the winter months or is there too much snow? Any good hiking/walking groups.

Last, any suggestions about lining up inexpensive (relatively) short term housing or suggestions for finding a housesit or other creative housing situation?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions, advice or information you would like to share!

Azure11 - Gee, you've asked for a lot of info. There's just too much info to share than would be practical here....Advice would be to look at the SantaFe Reporter which is our alternative weekly newspaper (they're on-line too) You can scan ads for yoga, rentals, groups with all kinds of interests, etc.
The folks at REI (Recreation Equipment Inc)'s new retail store in the Railyard district will be able to tell you about all the local trails and perhaps turn you on to some local groups that get together for walks and hikes. I imagine the folks at other outdoor-oriented shops can do the same.
The Chamber of Commerce and NM Dept of Tourism has a huge selection of magazines/flyers with suggestions of what to do and see while you're here. Again, there are sooooooo many choices that without knowing what kinds of things turn you on, I'd be hard-pressed to make a list for you.
You'll probably be better off renting a place close to downtown so you can walk to different places (museums, galleries, theaters, restaurants) and events.
Enjoy yourself!!!

another place to search for short term housing or sharing accommodation is craigslistdotorg.
