We saw Crazy Heart yesterday and liked it a lot.

Does anyone know where some of the outside-of-Santa Fe scenes were shot?

We loved this movie as well---Jeff Bridges' performance was a total knockout.

I was curious especially about the location of the concert towards the end of the movie. When Bad Blake walked out of the concert venue, it appeared he was outside of the SF Opera House. But the actual venue for the concert wasn't the Opera House. At the end of page one of the following article, you'll see how those final scenes played out, location-wise.

Default Crazy Heart - Santa Fe Opera location, final scene

O-man.

The inside shots of the final concert were filmed at the Sandia Amphitheater in Albuquerque. When Bad Blake walks outside, it's the SF Opera House. Some of the highway scenes when he is driving into Santa Fe look like Highway 502 coming down the hill from Los Alamos, just before the Totavi Cafe.

The bar where Bad Blake meets Maggie is Evangelo's Cocktail Lounge on San Francisco Street, a hangout of mine for more than 30 years. It is owned by Nick Klonis, Greek-american, whose father was "Papa", Evangelo Klonis, World War II Ranger, and also known as the "Face of World War Two", featured in Life Magazine - 1945. His picture became a commemorative stamp five years ago. The bar has a kind of "polynesian" look to it, a style endearing to Papa and Mama. Pool tables downstairs, it even used to have a dumbwaiter, (no....not me,) to send mixed drinks down below. Many celebrities have enjoyed this bar, including Mickey Rourke, Jeff Daniels, Chris Walken, Ruben Blades, others during the filming of the Milagro Beanfield war, Lonesome Dove, Silverado, etc.

The Hotel in Santa Fe where Bad Blake met Maggie is the Thunderbird Lodge on Cerrillos Road, characterized by the turquoise doors, an old fashioned California cabana style motor hotel of the '50s, that still sells rooms for about $39.00 a night. Thanks. O-man.

Forget the movie Crazyheart...

The real story is that of Evangelo Klonis. I'd seen this iconic photo for years in my dad's copy of Life's WWII (Circa 1949).

Default "Face of WWII" photo at Evanelo's - Santa FE

To N8. I appreciated your reply. Re: Evangelo Klonis and the Face of @@ II in his bar. I hope you do visit someday. And Let me know. I will personally introduce you to Nick, see the enlargement phot, all of the write-ups, and buy you a beer, too. I am a Tour Director for Santa Fe and Albuquerque, and all parts of New Mexico, Colorado, Utah, Arizona.

Each time I have a military reunion group, they love for me to take them there to see the photo. All of the time I was growing up with Nick, (his son), we never knew of this story. He didn't tell us at all. It was about 5 yeqrs after his death that we learned of this tribute. A few years ago, the big kahunas from Washington came to the bar and set up of the photo for an official commemorative stamp. We were all very proud of "Papa".

Hope to so show you this landmark bar.

Allen Quintana

Espanola was a major set for the movie in general.

An old warehouse was used as the bowling alley and bar in the movie. The old building was home to "surplus city" an old discount store. There were trailers all through the area of Riverside Rd, and Mountain View St.

Espanola was known as "Pueblo, Colorado" in the movie.
