ok--we are here visiting our daughter and went to the BoA on Venice Ave yesterday around lunch--
there were folding chairs laid down along the road saving places for the parade route--
so what is the rule for this--
how long can someone throw down a folding chair before the parade and save a place?
There were definitely no bodies associated with those chairs--
we could have gone down the street and thrown them in the back of a pickup and sold them at a swap meet if we have been so inclined...
were they put there early that morning---the day before--three days before?
What gives?
I know Venice is a town that time forgot in some ways--and I love that about it--but I got the idea that some people had been staking out the same locations for years--maybe decades--and if anyone tried to claim the same spot, the new-comers would have been run off...

there were chairs out there on wednesday morning, day before thanksgiving. i wonder what would be done if some one got there an hour before the parade started and moved the chairs and had a seat in their own chairs and then the ones that staked it out showed up as the parade started? i have never seen this before. usually people show up. if they want a good seat they show up early.

That's a little much in my opinion. I agree with Jersey, if you want to get a good seat then show up a little early. Leaving chairs out there for several days? I don't think the city should allow that.

i might take a ride up there and see how it is. it must be awfully good to save a spot almost a week ahead of time.

its funny life long residents (far and few between) care less about "ownership". its the retirees that have been here a couple years that think they own it. a couple old guys on our street think its all theirs since they have been here since 2002 and we are the new people. so it must be the snow bird and retirees that think that spot on the street in venice is theirs exclusively.

our daughter's best friend that moved here last june went there this pm in two cars--left their chairs there--and a car parked close to their site--went home in the extra car and our daughter will take them to parade later this evening....

still don't think that leaving chairs to hold a spot more than 24 hrs ahead of time is that kosher...and agree that it smacks of people who feel entitled...and likely aren't

i doubt if entitlement often involves lawn chairs lol

we were in the parade tonight, it was fun. There were TONS of people lining the streets, great turnout! I didn't really get to see too many of floats in the parade though.
