Anyone care to comment on today's Herald-Trib's article about HO insurance? Specifically, how much to you pay, and what are the coverages/exclusions? Living up north, I had a house valued at 250,000 and paid 600/yr with 500 deductible and 300k liability. I know thats not going to happen here. But what about you who live on the water or near the coast. I know it also depends on wind mitigation, type of roof, distance to fire hydrant, age of house, etc. Just looking for real world ball park figures. here the link:

I watched a show about the re-insurance companies and how they did take a beating back 5 yrs ago but have more than made up for it since then and are now just gouging the regular insurance companies who in turn are forced to charge homeowners these outrageous rates.
