I'll be interested in replies to this also. I'm thinking of just bringing them home from the beach a couple buckets at a time!! I'd LOVE to have a couple of those huge rocks that are embedded with shells but figure I'd get arrested trying to get those off the beach.

I just did my entire back yard in crushed shell in April (I can now mow my lawn in 20 minutes instead of 1.5 hrs!!). Since I needed so much (50 cubic yards), I went to the aggregate mine in Punta Gorda and got it for $15/yd. 2 dump truck loads. Most landscape supply companies want $45-50 per yd, but that's for the nice stuff. One cubic yard is about what would fit in a standard pickup truck. What I got has a lot of aggregate mixed in, but it's fine for what I did. I couldn't afford to do my entire back yard in the "good stuff"

Do a google search for "Landscape Supply Sarasota" almost all will carry washed sea shell. Just be sure to kill off any grass & weeds prior to putting the shell down. You will need to spray for weeds occasionally or pull them. Sucks, but it's worth it. I like it so much better than the high-maintenance grass down here.

That looks great HH!! Can't wait to see it in person. Last time I was down there, I guess I forgot where I was, and walked out into your backyard in my bare feet!! OUCH!!! You'd think I'd know better by now.

Big Earth Landscape Supply on Bee Ridge Rd in Sarasota. They have a 1/2 inch and 1 inch crushed shell. Go to products and gravel and they have a list of available types. They also have coupons for discounts.

Web site: Big Earth Landscape Supply

I know there are different types of sea shell landscaping, so you might want to shop around and go see what it looks like in person.

Very interested in this as I have just bought a condo which has a very small yard area at the front. I will need so little does anyone know if there is a garden centre type place where I could go and buy it in bags?

Thanks

Hey this may sound like a dumb question..when you do something like that do you still have to worry about fire ants? Also do you put landscaping material down first?

if you have one, check with your hoa first. Also you might want to prevent barefeet cuts and scrapes and use pebbles.
