He all. I have been reading your posts for months to prepare for a move to Sarasota. Coming down to work for a friend of mine after 40 years in the big city. At this age the commute, stress, tolls, noise, pollution and some other hassle of city life has made the decision easy. My love of the outdoors and hobbies have not been able to even out the stress NY has given me recently. As much as i enjoyed my time here it is time to move on. I will miss the mountains, jersey shore, snowboarding and mountain bike rides, but the choice of activities available in Sarasota will surly offer new opportunities for me to keep buys and maybe learn some new things in the process.

I'm looking to rent a 1br apt and garage (68 camaro and kayaks) for a year or two to get acquainted with the area while i look for a home. I think i would like the Lakewood ranch apartments but im here to ask if there is anything almost as nice within the same distance to downtown Sarasota that is comparable, and maybe a little less expensive. being a light sleeper the top floor or sturdy construction is a must. also on the list of necessities is cleanliness, safety and hopefully nice friendly neighbors. No children so schools zones are not a priority. just a good value in a place that i wont have to worry about my mom when she comes for a visit. Thanks for all your help in advance... Drew

You may want to look into some condo rentals and not just apartment rentals.

Here are some rental sites and agencies to try.

Here is a list of rentals that were in the MLS up to $1,000 per month that have a garage. None of the 1 bedrooms had a garage. Let me know if you need help connecting with a rental specialist. I can contact one for you and have them search for you a rental based on your criteria.

Palmer Ranch has some rentals also. I don't know much about it but looks really nice. My Aunt used to own in there.

A rental with garage in that price range is a little more difficult to find.

If you want to stay closer to Lakewood Ranch, you might check some of the rental sites for condos for rent in the communities of Parkridge or Las Palmas as many of the units do have garages. Both of these are gated communities (electronic gated, with clickers). Both have community pools, but Las Palmas has better amenities - clubhouse, 2 community pools, fitness center, tennis courts.

Another option further south (just south of Bee Ridge) might be Stoneridge. Those condos also have garages.

Admiral Walk on Clark Road has some 1 bedroom condos, but mainly 2 or 3 bedroom condos. Some of the units do have 1 car garages. Adminral Walk has a small clubhouse and pool but a decent sized fitness center.

Further south, in Palmer Ranch, some of the condos units in Serenade and Bella Villino have garages. I noticed that there is a condo in Serenade (Northridge street) currently for rent. Both of these communities have nice clubhouses with community pools.

You mentioned that you like to bike. We obviously don't have mountains, but Palmer Ranch does have the "Rails to Trails" for biking and walking.
The Legacy Trail

Palmer Ranch is also very close to Oscar Scherer state park. You'll probably want to bring along your mountain bike when you move, as the trails thru the park are mostly sand. The park also offers access for kayaks and canoes. I think you may be pleasantly surprised at how many different outdoor activities you can find to do in the Sarasota area.

This is a PS to my other post. You mentioned you have a classic Camaro. You'll find there are several local car clubs and lots of classic car shows all winter long in the Sarasota area. One of the largest is the Deveraux - Kaiser Car Show held each January.

Another great show that is coming up October 15th is the Mirror Lake show over at Lakeland, FL. The town of Lakeland blocks off about a 20 block area by Mirror Lake and turns them over to classic cars from the early 1900's all the way through to exotic cars of today. The biggest group on display is, of course, the 60's muscle cars.

Something else to enjoy about Sarasota.

Thank you all for your answers and help. It is truly appreciated. I'm surprised to get any answers with all the spelling and grammatical mistakes (typing on smartphone). I have tomorrow and monday off to sort through the list. Lakewood ranch had garage rentals and that was a big plus. But a storage facility near by could also work. Its time to work through all your suggestions and see what i can find. Thanks again... Drew

The only affordable place I know with a garage is Perico Apartments. The two bedrooms were around $600, so I imagine the 1 bedrooms are less. They have garages, but they are not connected to the unit. The nice part - you are right there by the bay! The downside is it is not close to Downtown Sarasota, though I don't consider Lakewood Ranch that close either.
