I stumbled across this forum last fall and have been lurking. I am now ready to start the process of finding a home for our family in Lakewood Ranch.

There are 4 of us including our 2 children 12 & 10 years old. We desire a 3 or 4 bedroom home n Lakewood Ranch. A pool isn't a must but would be okay.

Any one with suggestions for specific areas to consider within Lakewood Ranch please post them.

I will ask more questions as time goes on and will answer questions if people have them with regard to finding our perfect home in Lakewood Ranch.

Thank you everybody !

Thank you we are very excited as we start gathering information. We came down for a visit twice in the last year and are totally convinced Lakewood Ranch is for us based on our needs.

Thank you again for the welcome.

No agent yet but not opposed to using one from this board. Looking for 3 or 4 bedroom about 2200 sq ft pool not necessary. Thank you

WLR: Welcome!

I can't say that we'll actually be neighbors, but any time we travel between Sarasota and our new home (still under construction) we'll be driving through Lakewood Ranch! I expect that a lot of our personal business will be done in LWR as well.

Good luck in your search; in two (2) years time, we looked at many nice homes, both online and actual walk throughs, but in the end, our needs dictated new construction. We chose to build in Twin Rivers, just off Rye & Golf Course Roads. Immediately north of Lakewood Ranch

The first thing would be to narrow down the communities by what is within your price range and criteria. Then read through the descriptions of each community to see what meets your other needs such as amenities offered. Price range does make a difference.

Here is the Lakewood Ranch web page: Florida Homes - Florida Real Estate | Lakewood Ranch

Then you can go to the MLS web site and search for homes: http://myfloridahomesmls.com/

Lakewood Ranch has homes priced from the low $140's to over $1 million. Knowing what particular price range you are targeting would be helpful in suggesting neighborhoods.

Many of the younger families seem to like Summerfield, which is the oldest neighborhood in Lakewood Ranch (1990's) that is located by both one of the community parks and close to the elementary school, near SR70. Summerfield is not gated as are many of the LWR communities.

Greenbrook is also popular with younger families, it is also located near SR70. Greenbrook is gated and has more amenities, which include a park with play area and obstacle course, in-line skating rink and a dog park. Greenbrook is also close to walking trails. You have Greenbrook Crossings, Greenbrook Fields and Greenbrook Village. The homes were built in the early to mid 2000's.

North of SR70, off of Lakewood Ranch Blvd is another popular LWR village, Central Park. Central Park has 6 individual neighborhoods and is one of the newest villages of LWR, with some new construction still going on. The central feature of this gated community is the large, 10 acre central park which has open green space, shaded picnic areas, a playground, basketball & tennis courts, soccer fields, a butterfly garden with benches, walkways and a dog park. The LWR community just held a huge St. Patrick's day celebration at the park on Saturday, which I understand was well attended. (Unfortunately I could not go due to a family emergency. Life sometimes throws us a curve ball.) Central Park homes are all green built for lower energy and operating costs. A couple of the neighborhoods offer maintenance free lawns (ie lawn service is included in the HOA fees). Of the 6 neighborhoods, only Claremont Park has a community pool.

Belleisle at Country Club East and Edenmore are other LWR communities that are offering new construction, although they seem to be geared more towards baby boomers.

Someone else mentioned the Lakewood Ranch web site, they have a lot of information there and unlike some other communities, they kept their info updated. You might also stop in at one of the Lakewood Ranch visitor centers on your next visit, they can provide you with a huge packet of great information and maps for both the community and nature trails.

Thank you for all of the messages/replies posted here, as well as for the direct messages. The main question that nneds to be answered at this point is our budget. Based on what we have to put down we have been approved for $375,000 although our comfort level is at or below $350,000. Thank you again
