Lots of things going on in the Sarasota area this weekend, many free or inexpensive to attend.
Tonight is Boo Fest at Lakewood Ranch's Main Street, 6 - 9 pm. Trick or treating, costume parade, ghost stories. Great place to take the little ones.
Oct 26th - 28th: the Pumpkin Festival at the Sarasota fairgrounds on Ringling. 12 pm - 10 pm. Games, carnival rides, hay rides and a haunted house. Beer garden for adults. Children free, adults $5.
Saturday: downtown Sarasota, Doggy & Kitty Costume Parade. Dress up your 4 legged friend and join the parade at 10:15 am at Selby Five Points Park. Event runs 9 am - 3 pm. $5 each parade entry.
Saturday: Boo Run, 5 k run thru Lakewood Ranch, starts at 8 am at LWR Main Street.
Oct 26th - 27th: historic Spanish Point in Osprey is offering ghost tours at 7, 8 and 9 pm. Tickets must be prepurchased, more info on their website.
Saturday: big outdoor Halloween block party on Main street in Sarasota at the Gator Club. Live bands. 6 pm - 1 am.
Saturday & Sunday: Fruitville Grove Pumpkin Fest,10 am to 5 pm. East of I75 on Fruitville Rd. Hay rides, pony rides, petting zoo and lots of family fun.
Oct 31st: Fright Night on St. Armands Circle 6 to 8:30 pm. Trick or treating for the little ones.
There are also some non Halloween events this weekend:
Saturday 4 - 8 pm is the International Beer Festival at Lakewood Ranch's Main street. Tickets are $25 purchased pre event, $35 at the event. Offering samples of over 100 beers from around the world.
Sunday 2 - 5 pm is the Morton's (Market) Firehouse Chili Cookoff on Osprey Ave between Hyde Park and Hillview in Southside Village, Sarasota. Celebrity judges. Lots of fun.
Saturday is also a Special Adoption Day event by the Manatee county animal services. Adopt a new best friend that has been at the shelter for over 60 days for only $10. 10 am to 4 pm. For more info go to

We survived the humid summer months and now it's time to take advantage of the beautiful fall weather and enjoy the many outdoor events.
