My daughter and SIL want to move from queen mattress to king...
any local mattress companies that make a quality mattress that might be less expensive than buying a "name brand" from a retail store like Macy's or another mattress store?

Anyone know of supplier that sells quality mattress at discounted price?
I know that some areas do have local companies that make a good mattress but save cost by not having lot of overhead /advertising costs...

I have a hookup on free mattresses if you want to go that route. Its a furniture store that delivers mattresses and they haul the old ones away and they go in the trash. Its far from new, but in a pinch, or for anyone else reading, just shoot me a PM if you want the details.

Good lord, if a person is willing to buy a used mattress, that's one thing, but you'd have no way of knowing how old these are, or what happened on them,... I wouldn't have a used mattress myself, and I'm an avid thrift shopper, but at least if you're going that route and can talk to the owner, you'd have some idea of what you're bringing into your home, and laying your body on.

When we lived in Orlando, we purchased from the Original Mattress Factory. It was a lot cheaper and we had it for over 10 years and it was great. They don't have stores here, but if you're willing to drive to Central FL to test out the different models, you can then have it shipped to you.

I'd highly suggest The Mattress Store on South Tamiani Trail in Sarasota. Great selection, pricing, delivery and they even have chemical-free choices.

An option in Bradenton that I found when we were looking for a new mattress is America's Mattress at 4744 Cortez Rd West.

It's a mom & pop kind of store, nothing fancy, but clean. Good prices, free delivery.

Here's a tip I learned in our own search process -- if they try to sell you a mattress that is not wrapped in the factory plastic, it was either a floor demo or a return. No way would I pay new mattress price for a used mattress.

By the way, there was a thread on this forum a while back about mattresses that had a number of recommendations. If you do a quick search you'll probably find it.
