We were able to poke around Sarasota this week, and really loved the areas of Cherokee Park/McClellan park and the proximity to shopping and the beaches! Are these family friendly areas? Any others to suggest that would go to Southside Elementary that have he same feel? I know these are $$ areas, want to make sure people with kids are there!

Also, am I correct in assuming people choose Middle and High schools (public)? Do they send their kids to
Private after elementary? The middle and high schools zoned for these areas drop off in the ratings.

TIA!

Cherokee Park and McClellan Park are beautiful areas. Right now the districted schools are Brookside Middle and Sarasota High. My mother taught at Brookside many years ago. There are lots of reviews online about both schools and I have written many blogs about the various schools and also this specific neighborhood.

My kids have a few friends that live in the Pomelo and Citrus areas. In general, I find that my kids find other kids at school and in after school activities. I usually end up driving them a short distance to their friends homes. I lived on Pomelo Ave several years ago. I found it to be a very homey and quaint neighborhood. When I lived there the neighborhood wasnt as trendy or desirable as it is now.

I suggest you go take a tour of Southside. I have several friends with kids there and they are very happy with the school. You would also have an option of school choice for middle and high school, if the school has open spots.
