What internet service providers are most common in the Sarasota area? Is Comcast a big player? I'd be looking for internet only (no cable TV) if I retire to that area. Anyone have good (or bad) experiences with specific ISPs that they can share? Thanks!

Other than escalating prices, Comcast has been good. Price wise they are all close in the end. You could chase new subscriber deals, but to what end?

Comcast, here in North Venice for 4th season, and before that 8 seasons of CC in Naples...
Their internet service for me, rips along at 60+ Down 40+ Up, and seldom bogs even when all the Netflix users stuff the pipe.

I would expect FIOS to be comparable.

Some communities have CC in their domain and one is already paying some portion of it vis a vis cable channels, so you might check as you narrow in on a house. Some communities will have a jump ball being wired for both CC and VZ/Frontier Fios; other communities may have Plan C, as in not CC or VZ Fios.

They are all similar in theory; the infrastructure quality and subset maintenance and attention to customers may be of concern, but in most communities I am familiar with everyone's net cranks right along.

Comcast is around, I've never used them.

Bright House cable has been here a long time; they were bought out by Charter last year and are now offering their service as "Spectrum". I've had internet-only service with Charter in Minnesota, and it was good. Not sure how that will translate to FL. As a company, I believe Bright House was good to their customers, but again not sure what changes the merger may bring.

Frontier offers "FiOS". This used to be Verizon's service, but Verizon sold it to Frontier a little over a year ago. Lots of stories how Frontier totally screwed up the transition, but I have used them for the past 6 months and service has been pretty reliable.

These are the only 3 options I'm aware of. I'd stay away from internet provided by the satellite tv companies.
