Extremely positive article about Sarasota titled:

"A FLORIDA BEACH TOWN WITH SNOB APPEAL"

lol...I had to laugh at this rather lengthy piece on page D7

I'm not sure the glossy piece is necessarily complimentary ha ha, but it does paint a very good "recent" snapshot of the shift that has occured that I've seen in the last 25 years....lol....give it a read and post your own feedback please!

I Googled the topic and I was able to read the article for free:

https://www.wsj.com/articles/a-flori...eal-1516293155

Hmm when I clicked from the above link the article is beyond a paywall. However when I clicked the article from a Google search result the article wasn't behind a paywall.

I'm at the library (its actually open past 5 pm today) and read the article for free. It doesn't contain anything most of us here already know, but it may intrigue some who have never been here to visit. Europeans have more vacation time than Americans, and when they vacation in Florida, they stay longer, and spend more than us Americans do. They are the target audience of this "article". Lido Key is mentioned by name as if to say....listen up Europeans, Lido Key is where you all need to go, that's where you'll find lots of other Europeans, and feel right at home. Oh, and by the way, go spend some time and money in downtown too....along Main street preferably. I'm all good with that.

It's a paid tourism advertisement dressed up as an article. When an article mentions the Sarasota tourism bureau chief by name, that's a sure tipoff. Kudos to her for getting what appears to be some potentially valuable exposure....if Europeans read The Wall Street Journal. If she got this exposure for free, then I'm impressed. If she got a good deal for the ad space, I'm okay with that too. I see these type of infomercials to be more effective than advertisements that look like advertisements.

I hope the Europeans wont mind our little mess out on Lido Key...you know...the beach with no sand.
