The summer thunder season is approaching here of the Gulf Coast of Florida; does anyone have any ideas or suggestions how to stop my greyhound completely losing her mind when the thunder starts. Neither cuddles nor Thundershirts work. We rescued her from a dog track in Ireland. There was no way we were leaving her behind so we put her on the plane from England when we moved to Bradenton 8 years ago. We had no idea she would run and hide in the closet every time we get a thunderstorm. Feeling guilty!

Have you looks into sound proofing one room, that he could stay in. Maybe it would be worth the cost?

Soundproofing a room is an excellent idea, I shall definitely look into it, thanks.

I wonder if, rather than soundproofing a whole room, maybe soundproofing a dog igloo, or some kind of smaller structure, you can keep in one of your rooms? (Not sure how practical that would be. Just throwing it out there.)

Do a search on Google for a Thundershirt.

The OP already says the Thundershirt doesn't work for the dog. I would let her have a safe space in the closet or if she has a crate, that would be good as well until the thunder passes.

I had a golden retriever that used to (literally) go through walls if we weren't home and there was a thunderstorm. My german shepherd also was afraid of storms but I tried using a reward system with her that seemed to work. Everytime there was a clap of thunder, I'd give her a treat she loved and would say something like "thunder cookie?" because she already knew what a "cookie" was. It took a little time but she started associating the thunder with a positive reward.

What a great idea!
