Well that settles it. If Marketwatch deems it one of the best retirement locations, it must be so

I'd like to know where that article got the median home price for Venice Florida. Must be a mis-print:

"The median home price is about $135,000"

You can't hardly buy a mobile home here for that.

The article in the link was published in February 2012, right as the housing market was just beginning to come out of the ruins, which explains the prices. As I read on to the other cities on the list, all the prices were way too low for them too, which made me look at the date it was written. Why was this old post resurrected?

Looking on the realty site that I go to when I want to check out various cities, you CAN easily afford a mobile home there for that price BUT you are going to pay $1000.00+ per month for lot rent. (realtor.com). That's the Venice area anyway...

True. It's the land here that's expensive. It's getting more and more expensive as people continue to build here. Personally, I wouldn't live here if I had to live in a mobile home. I might rent one in winter for a few months but I doubt I'd want one year around especially in hurricane season.

I love Sarasota, love the time I lived there, love visiting.

However, I could not live there again. It's just a little too sleepy. My husband and I were just there a couple of weeks ago and we had a hard time on a Saturday night finding a place open to have a drink at 10PM.

Thank God for Gekkos.
