I would like to see the older homes and buildings fixed up to their former glory of Old Florida - not the cookie cutter gated Lakewood Ranch type new communities but the beautiful MCM homes revitalized -

I agree that the most of the main roads leading into, and out of, the City of Sarasota look horrible....mostly due to age, and lack of proper upkeep.

Bahia Vista & Webber Streets look much nicer, & are less traveled, so I try to use those, & stay off of Fruitville, & Bee Ridge.

University Pkwy looks okay, but that is because its so new.

Its due to poor local gov't planning & code enforcement, & lack of pride by property owners and business owners.

I guess a major point is that if you're judging the Sarasota City/County solely by a relatively very short stretch of a US Federal Highway, US 41, then that seems pretty bone-headed. Other arteries and transit points are far more significant to the natives and locals.

There is as much daily transit on a daily basis on 301/N Washington, Fruitville, 17th, 12th, Lockwood Ridge, Beneva, Clark, Webber, University, sr 70, sr64, LWRR etc etc that doesn't appear on US41 most times or ever in a week's time.
In other words, most residents hardly "use" US 41......or rarely!

That's happening in a few...too few...neighborhoods. Unfortunately in a few DT Sarasota neighborhoods such as just north of Fruitville, older houses are being knocked down and being replaced by quite a few that look like mini-commercial office buildings viz a very modern design....and a few are 2 stories monsters....lol

And nearly all of these roadsides look like doo doo. That is why I like master planned communities like Palmer Ranch, Lakewood Ranch, & Wellen Park...at least the roadsides look nice w/in the confines of these areas. Yes, that prettier roadside comes w/ a price, but I'm okay with that.
