I agree that Mr. DeSantis is encouraging waay too many toxic people to move to Florida. Many of us don't think this approach is productive or desirable one bit. He clearly has an agenda which does not jibe with other normal, everyday native Floridians. He's a politician not a business owner.

You are correct that we have and attract too many toxic, nasty, egoist knowitalls.

The stench of arrogance is telling. Floridians see it each day, on the streets, in stores, in restaurants, next door, in HOAs, in Condo Assns, dealing with planning commissions, school boards, churches, a few synagogues, dealing with law enforcement/code enforcement, food demands/selections, service demands in community settings, Neighborhood Associations, Vehicle driving behaviors, and interpersonal relationships. This is just to name a few. Many are convinced that they, alone are agents of all things that represent positivity, growth, and socio-cultural enlightenment. That's simply a barefaced lie, and is an affront couched in a flimsy notion of self-aggrandizement and superiority. Many Floridians aren't that stupid to be steamrolled and transformed in that (their) image. To do that, or to accept that is, in fact, offensive to many.

Well I guess you can decide to deal with it or move on. Not sure what else you can do. Most of us have had to move on from an area when it doesn't meet your needs anymore.

Dealing with it is never tantamount to resignation. We all fight for our values, safety, family, environment, society, and happiness by using our own methodologies, means, and voices. Being silent signals tacit agreement with destruction or even oppression.

Of course, many have chosen to be cowards in the face of all kinds of threats to the status quo or to the imposition of new order. Some ascribe to the thought that bullies are always correct in their so-called leadership, wisdom, and solutions and that they are good for everyone else. No one necessarily must 'move on'. Only oppressors usually think that - if fact, they seem to insist upon that.

Believe this: we understand fully.

No judgement there... so, what do you propose?

So what exactly are you going to do to fight this "new order"?

Who's we? I speak for my own opinion, but also for family, huge extended family, many long-time neighbors, associates, friends, co-workers, former co-workers, like-minded voters, community volunteers, over-extended/worked teachers that I know personally (I was a teacher), community groups to which we belong, and many healthcare professionals (including my own physician/group who are deluged), and many law enforcement/govt worker (county) in my sphere/universe...inlcuding but not limited to most in my own religious congregation (who admittedly mostly suffer in silence for fear of being so-called un-Christian, but I do understand).

No one need not be elected to represent, but they too have similar misgivings and observations.

Everyone isn't thinking the same, like sheep going to slaughter. That's the truth. One of the best barometers for us has been to be in constant contact with law enforcement community officials. It's been eye-opening for us. Most seem to agree that many newcomers, developers, and bureaucrats are wearing blinders to the negative developments in both counties (Manatee and Sarasota). They tend to agree that services are suffering - and bad attitudes (not just crime, accidents, violence, domestics, FRAUD, assault) are everywhere now. They also agree that most of the perpetrators are fairly recent migrants. I don't know, but I do believe them, not developers, cheerleaders, CVB, Visit Florida, planners/architects, land owners (e.g. Shroeder Manatee,The Uihlein Family, or real estate agents such as Ms Saunders). We would be foolish if we counted on their largess and objectivity...fools indeed.

By in large we're probably on the same page, but growth has growing pains. If you're not growing you're dying... that is a true statement. However, I never assume to speak for anyone but me. Yes, I have a sense of community, through civic organizations, church and "Captains for Clean Water", therefore I welcome newcomers seeking to improve their life.

What do long-time Florida residents do who happen to live in a mid 1916 (or thereabouts) foursquare or bungalow? Are they screwed when it comes to house insurance?
