Florida homeowners upset by ‘insulting’ Hurricane Ian insurance payouts

https://nypost.com/2023/02/20/florid...rance-payouts/

You pay your insurance and you expect to get that back, especially when you've never had a claim in almost 30 years we've lived in that home… Ian flooded their entire home and damaged their $50,000 dollar solar panel roof, pool enclosure and outside storage.
“We just spent a bunch of money new roof, we've redone the plumbing read, everything was up to code,” Matt Hall explained. At the end of October, their insurance company sent … about $6,000 dollars that were their payout after their policy’s $18,000 dollar deductible.

According to the Office of Insurance Regulation (OIR) claims database, more than 358,000 homeowners have filed claims out of Hurricane Ian as of November 30. The department is reporting almost 95,000 claims closed without payment, and more than half of total claims closed in general.

Solar is a great big scam.

How about some regulation about building, water usage, sewers, roads.

Seems the only thing this Governor is interested in is banning books and drag queens. How about looking at quality of life for all of us who pay taxes.

Responses:

1) The Governor of The State of Florida does not have the responsibility in enacting rules about the plotting of houses per acre or the type of housing to be proposed or built. That is the domain of most counties and cities, planning commissions, and Codes enacted by those specific political entities.

SOOOO.... you're misinformed.

2) Foreigners buy property all over the United States, all the time. Non-residents (and non citizens aka foreigners) from France, England, Canada, CHINA, and around here, Russians and UKRAINIANS (now using US tax payer money/theft). All have been known to pay cash and use dummy LLCs as well.

SOOOO.......you're misinformed...again

3) The Governor of The State of Florida is certainly interested in banning books that are used in FLORIDA Public Schools in Kindergarten through 3+ grades with overt Sexual Content alluding to sexual practices, sexual depictions, and sexual abnormal indoctrination. Most normal parents of young children agreed that these kinds of books in public schools for these grades are inappropriate in the Public Classroom, and is an affront to parental control. Similarly, exposing very young children to the abnormal sexualization/fetishes of grown men dressing in women's garb, makeup, in "shows" or on the catwalk isn't some kind of outrageous position when it comes to young children and their early development (unless you're some kind of warped, freakish thinker with a sexual, abnormal agenda) Parents should educate their own young children about gender and sexual practices at the appropriate time. That's a reasonable position. Grown adults can do what they wish - freakish or normal.

SOOOO.......you're misinformed and deliberately twisting the Governor's actions, which is unfair...a half truth is as bad as a LIE.

4) Every citizen and even illegal "pays taxes" in some form, even though citizens pay NO INCOME TAX.
Other taxes are property taxes, sales taxes, gasoline, and other excise taxes.

SOOOO.........you're misinformed ...the Executive Branch is not responsible for tax policy. That's a function of most legislatures.

It seems that you, et al, have an inherent bias of sort, but believe as you wish. Truth shall remain truth and never yields to misinformation for long.

Insurance companies rejecting new policyholders with damaged homes from Hurricane Ian

https://news.google.com/articles/CBM...S&ceid=US%3Aen

The clock is ticking for many homeowners to get home insurance after their insurer UPC went bankrupt, leaving tens of thousands of people in Southwest Florida scrambling to find another carrier.

However, it’s proving nearly impossible for many people.

No insurance company, including the state-run Citizens, will accept a new policyholder if their home is still damaged from Hurricane Ian.

With just days left to find a new carrier, homeowners can’t get repairs made soon enough…leaving many people caught in limbo.

March 29 is the deadline for thousands of people to find new insurance if they were canceled by UPC, but if your home is damaged and UPC hasn’t settled your claim, you could be forced by your mortgage company to pay thousands more a year for a policy you can’t afford.

Report: Insurance provider plans to raise some Florida home coverage rates 50%

https://news.google.com/articles/CBM...S&ceid=US%3Aen

If you get your home insurance through Allstate, be aware that a report indicates the company plans to hike rates for some customers in Florida.

According to WBBH, a leaked internal memo from Allstate subsidiary Castle Key says condo owners could see rate hikes of nearly 54%.

The company confirmed the rate hike, writing: “the cost of providing reliable protection for Florida homeowners has risen dramatically, and we’re taking actions to ensure we can continue to protect our customers over the long haul.”

The company announced in January it plans to drop 33,000 policies.

Experts say it's likely because of the damage from Hurricane Ian.

"They've lost quite a bit with Hurricane Ian. So it looks like they're pulling back so they have stopped all new business," Reid McDaniel with McDaniel Insurance Solutions said.
