The Lakewood Ranch store will be the specialty grocer’s second location in the two-county region. There are also stores nearby in Tampa and St. Petersburg.

The store will open at 8473 Cooper Creek Blvd. in the University Park area, according to the Monrovia, California-based grocery chain’s website.

Other tenants in The Shoppes at University Town Center owned by Benderson Development include Fresh Kitchen, BJ’s Wholesale Club, Nordstrom Rack, and a PGA Tour Superstore. The mixed-use plaza bordering Sarasota and Manatee counties offers about 435,000 square feet of retail, office and hospitality space, according to a flyer published on Loopnet.com.

While the website didn’t specify an opening date, a spokesperson for the company told the Bradenton Herald, “We hope to open the store later this year. I can share an updated timeline as things progress.”

Sub-obtimal location imho. Hard to get in & out of that shopping area due to poor design and high volume. Parking lot is already very crowded. Whole Foods has the best location at UTC, then fresh Market.

Would this TJs be easier to get to than the other one in Sarasota from Southgate.

Both of those locations are difficult at best. I don't know why TJ's seems to always pick the most complicated parking situations.

Depends upon where you live. From Southern Sarasota County, I could get to the new one faster because I-75 is faster to travel on than 41.

I wouldn't drive to TJ's for just TJ's though. I'd bundle the trip w/ several other stops.

The owners/mgmt of TJ's do not emphasize access-egress & parking much at all because both locations are a challenge.

I believe you have said you are moving to Southgate/Gulfgate area? So if that would be your starting location you would be closer to the Trader Joe's at: 4101 S Tamiami Trail Sarasota, FL 34231- and that would be the one easier for you to get to from home.

According to Google maps Southgate is 2.7 miles and currently a 7 minute drive from the Trader Joes in Sarasota. While the forthcoming Trader Joe's at 8473 Cooper Creek Blvd. is 12.2 miles and currently a 22 minute drive from Southgate.

From Gulf Gate Estates the Trader Joe's in Sarasota would be 3.7 miles and currently a 10 minute drive. While the forthcoming Trader Joe's at 8473 Cooper Creek Blvd would be 13.5 miles and currently a 24 minute drive.
