These people are trying to turn USA into Eastern Europe..We the working people do not need small ugly condos in ugly identical apartment complexes..We need normal houses with yards to raise our families - this is what America is, the condos are Eastern Europe! The only solution is - tax the hell out of investors, tax the second homes, tax the hell out of any home they do not live in! Restrict and raise the taxes for airbnbs and vacation rentals..

Some of these huge apartment complexes I see going up remind me of the ones you see in north Korea or soviet era. Fugly looking and depressing looking. I mean they're massive. One is going up by me. You see them all over up and down the coast. And they market them luxury lol. Same price as a house payment rofl!

Myakka City residents frustrated over East River Ranch development

For full article:

https://www.baynews9.com/fl/tampa/ne...ce-frustration

It’s a heated debate among residents and Manatee County commissioners that seems to never end. Manatee County commissioners approved a major development in Myakka City that’s got residents fed up with more development.

What You Need To Know

- East River Ranch received the green light from commissioners to develop the project

- The project would bring more than 5,000 homes, a school, a fire station, and more than a million square feet of commercial space near Lake Manatee

- Commissioner Kevin Van Ostenbridge voted in favor of this development, saying it's a necessity for the community

- East River Ranch is the sixth approved development entirely east of the boundary line that was put in place in 1989 to limit urban sprawl through 2040, but it has exceptions to the rule

I believe most longtime FL residents can agree that it will be "time to go" in less than 3 years. Sell while the market is still "UP". Nothing lasts forever; and when it falls, it will fall hard AND fast! Also, the next "Big One" will help expedite things. Pass your trophied baton to some pollyannaish neophyte, who can start the cycle for themselves. Time is experience. Foresight is wisdom.

Yes, & loss of natural spaces. Every time I see large swaths of greenery removed, I know I just got closer to having to move again. I like trees a lot, & when they're gone, I must go. I need trees all around me to achieve optimal hapiness. Parks aren't enough for me.

Humans were not made for a high density existance, & this human hates it. It brings all kinds of problems that I don't like to be exposed to.

Its just me though. Tens of Millions love the big crowded cities. To each his own.

I feel exactly the same; and it's one of the big reasons we moved to Lakeland. This city (at least for now) is literally an urban forest, on high (for Florida) rolling land; and a small-scale downtown. There are beautiful tree canopy streets everywhere - lots of beautiful parks (and lakes) too. I can't say enough about it, really.

So sad how the once beautiful Sarasota has been ruined with all that high density building. We lived there for decades (starting in the 1980s) and year by year saw beautiful historic buildings come down along with tree canopy. I just hope Lakeland can hold on for awhile.

Good luck to you in your next move, beach.

With the current codes, Lakeland will continue to remain the sleepy (albeit sprawling) place that it is. I'm shocked that Lakeland actually embraced density in the city core (particularly downtown) with the mindset NOT to become Tampa/Orlando.

Winter Haven on the other hand seems to be ramping up and they don't have the same water woes that Lakeland has at the moment.

"They paved paradise and put up a parking lot"

I bought a lot that had no trees on it (for decades), but trees all around it, that I can enjoy. My immediate area saved many trees, which is why I bought here.

I got to watch an Eagle eat a Rabbit on a nearby tree limb...a lifelong memory. Currently, there's a Great Blue Heron nest in a nearby tree next to a pond...the chicks are huge, & ready to fledge.

I'm part of the problem for moving here to FLA, so I can't cast stone at others who also want to do the same.

I do cast stones at those who make the zoning laws though. The population density in our area is way too high, the lots too small, & way too much clearcutting. They are ruining it...but they don't care.

I've tried to stop it in years gone by, but learned its impossible to do. The developers & local politicians are business partners; so to speak. They only care about maximizing profit & tax revenues.

The area they plan to put 5300 new homes on should really have 1/2 that many homes built on it. Packing humans so close together overloads schools, roads, hospitals, & overtaxes police, firefighters, EMC's, fresh water supplies, & kills too much of our flora & fauna.

When you vote for local politicians, learn about the candidates views on development, & vote wisely.

Hunsader Farms points to development after suspected coyote attack that killed sheep

For full article:

https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/hu...e207be93&ei=50

Three sheep were killed at Hunsader Farms, according to an Instagram post from the East Manatee farm.

In the social media post, Hunsader Farms said they believed a large pack of coyotes killed the sheep, injured four goats and donkeys were in the pasture with them. The injured animals are being treated with antibiotics and pain medicine, they said.

"In over 30 years of having animals, this has NEVER happened," part of the Instagram post read. "Unfortunately, our county keeps approving commercial and residential development past the urban boundary line, pushing wildlife out of their homes around us and into the rural areas that are still left, including farms and ranches."

In May, developer Carlos Beruff won approval to rezone more than 1,380 acres of agricultural land into a new development called East River Ranch, the Bradenton Herald previously reported.

East River Ranch has plans to build 5,378 dwelling units just south of Hunsader Farms and backs up to another large property in Myakka City where Schroeder-Manatee Ranch will build 4,500 single-family homes on 2,307 acres.

They'll eventually seek and gain approval for development east of the new development at Taylor Ranch. (Once the water and sewer lines are configured) It appears that "the sky is the limit" for SMR, who apparently intends to keep pushing until the last deal is $truck or until the last sheep standing.
