i will be moving to the sarasota, tampa bay area soon. i know that they are about an hour away from each other but the distance to work doesn't bother me. myself (25), my girl(23) and our dog (80Lbs) are looking for a nice area where there are some young people around. we are looking to surround ourselves with others around our age range. nothing against elders at all, it's just that it's a total different lifestyle. we all love the beach and the bar scene so i've been looking at clearwater and siesta key. we will be renting and i would like to stay under $4,000 a month so i know that could help the search out.

are dogs allowed on any of the beaches down in between the 2 areas that i mentioned?

thanks for all your help

Here are parks located in Sarasota County that allow pets. County Ordinance prohibits pets at any other park locations.

Beach Park
Bird Key Park - on John Ringling Causeway (on the way to St. Armand's Circle, just east of the bridge) is Sarasota's only beach allowing dogs and cats.
Brohard Park & Dog Beach - Venice-off leash is OK

Parks
Ken Thompson Park - 1700 Ken Thompson Parkway, on City Island by Mote Marine Laboratory
Bay Front Park - at U. S. 41 & Ringling in the Marina Jack area
Gillespie Park - 710 N. Osprey, Downtown at Gillespie and N. Osprey
Arlington Park - 2650 Waldemere Street (trail area only)
ALL ANIMALS MUST BE KEPT ON A LEASH IN THE ABOVE PARKS.

Paw Parks
17th Street Park - 4570 17th Street, on 17th Street east of Beneva Road, west of Honore Avenue
Woodmere Park - On Jacaranda Boulevard 2 blocks north of U. S. 41
Lakeview Park - Sarasota

Here's some more info on Brohard Park. It's probably the best dog beach around but not real close to either of the locations you listed.
Brohard Park
Brohard Park is located in the southern most part of the City of Venice, on the Venice Airport property on Harbor Drive.

If you enjoy fishing, there's a 740 foot fishing pier on the property for public use. The pier has rest rooms, a snack bar, and a bait shop.

Also located at the park is Sharky's Restaurant and the U.S. Coast Guard Training Center.
The wetland area is known for bird watching. There are no lifeguards on duty.

The Venice City Commission voted to allow dogs at South Brohard Park. There is a fenced area, a dune walkover, a drinking fountain and showers for dogs and fire hydrants and leash posts. A 300 foot section of beach behind the City's wastewater treatment plant is a dog beach for dogs and their owners. Dogs must be on leash or under voice control. Owners must clean up after their pets.

Now as far as a place to live. I would suggest the downtown area. It's just younger and more vibrant than other areas. With $4k per month you could probably rent almost anyplace in Sarasota. That's quite a lot for a rent payment.

One thing you didn't mention is your job situation. They're pretty scarce right now and I just wanted to make sure you're OK when you come down here

Siesta Key is great for young people but they do not live there.
Go to Tampa if you want vibrancy and young people.

Contrary to the above posters's claim, there are plenty of young people here - we have several colleges in the area for one thing. You will find young people on Siesta, around downtown, and some of the neighborhoods to the north, where there are 3 colleges. Also the neighborhoods close to the downtown area.

You will love Siesta - it's always got stuff going on.

Existing data series such as births, deaths, and domestic and international immigration, are used to update the decennial census base counts. PEP estimates are used in federal funding allocations, in setting the levels of national surveys, and in monitoring recent demographic changes. With each new issue of July 1 estimates, PEP revises estimates for years back to the last census. Previously released estimates are superseded. City-Data.com stats have the average age in Sarasota at 41, which seems about right to me. I don't really consider that old.

Median resident age: 41.1 years Florida median age: 38.7 years

I really can't make heads or tails from the above. It just looks like a big jumbled mess to me.

The average age of full time residents who are domiciled here may well be 41 but from December to May when our non resident snowbirds flock here it must be 65. This is a fact a younger person or couple should consider before relocating here.
I am not negative just posting my view so a reader gets a balanced view.

I think you would love Siesta Key. And with that budget you would have no problem finding an great place. We just moved here recently and are a bit older than you but I have a very good friend from design school who is about 26. She moved here last summer and loves it. She hasn't had any trouble making friends her own age. Also, we've been to Daiquiri Deck in Siesta Key Village numerous times and there are always a lot of you young people there and all around the village. Haven't spent too much time dowtown yet but the area seems to have a younger demographic than south Sarasota.

Just curious, will you be working in Tampa? I'm about to embark on a job search and was thinking Tampa was just too far to commute but I went yesterday morning (I-75 to 618 Crosstown Expy) and got there super fast, maybe 45 minutes.

sarasota is great. people of all ages. enough young people to meet and mingle with. some nightlife. there are a few colleges and an art school in sarasota. should be fine. you could live in or near downtown sarasota- and then go party in siesta on weekends or whenever.

unless you guys want and need a ton of nightlife and a ton of people your age - in that case - maybe check out tampa.

i dont know anything about clearwater. sorry.

there is an excellent dog beach in venice- but you willnot want to live in venice - too "old" for you guys. but you could occais road trip it to venice dog beach (called brohard or south brohard).

try to come down and check both areas out for yourself, and see what you think.

Default Should I?

Oh gosh... I am coming this weekend to sign my lease to live in Venice! I am 30-something and single! I have been wondering if I would get bored quickly! I am working in Sarasota, but really liked the charm of Venice when I visited last.

Should I reconsider?

Do I not wanna live there?
