Sarasota Memorial is definitely the premier hospital in Sarasota area (and I would say the region too). They are often ranked as one of Americas best hospitals. Its definitely where I would go if I were hurt. Of course this is all from a patients perspective.

I don't know about fawcet, but Venice is supposedly getting better. It definitely wasn't the greatest before (not that it was bad or anything), but it is supposedly getting a lot better.

One thing to keep in mind is that Sarasota Memorial is a community owned hospital (supported by taxpayers of Sarasota County with a hospital board) while Venice is a private hospital.

I think the biggest thing you should be deciding is if how much she wants to drive. Port Charlotte to SMH's main campus is an easy hour drive each way depending on traffic. If she might be working at the new SMH North Port emergency center, than it wouldn't be so bad.

I really have no idea how any of them treat their employees though.

I have a friend that works as a charge nurse at Sarasota Memorial and my uncle also works there. They both have expressed that they really like the hospital.

I would scratch Fawcett. The staff there never seems happy. In my opinion Fawcett and Peace River Regional would not be the best choice.

I've had good experiences at Venice Hospital but I/my family has only had to use the emergency room. I don't know anyone that works there either so I can't say how it would be to be employed at Venice.

I would think the hour drive from Port Charlotte to Sarasota might get tiring after a while.

Have you looked into the licence policy yet and how it works. I am moving from NY where I am a nurse and I do not believe they have resaprocity. I may want to work part time at some point depending if I get bored being retired

I just got to the Port Charlotte, Fl area from Upstate, NY. You have to go to the Florida Board of Nursing Website and it will tell you what you have to do to get licensed. You need to fill out application have a background investigation done, fingerprints need to be sent in and you also have to pay a fee of approx $220.00. It takes about 2-4 weeks to be completed. I would advise to have your Florida License prior to coming down. I also just started interviewing. Actually had two so far and both offered me a position. Pay is less than NY, but not as bad as I thought it would be.
