WTF is wrong Florida Power & Light? is everything a damned ripoff? why are the "leaders" in florida allowing the electric company to get away with this crap? VOTE THE BASTARDS OUT OF OFFICE!

FPL requires a security deposit from customers equal to twice the average monthly bill for the service address. At this time, the deposit required at the above address is $310.00.

It's due to the transient nature of FL. Lots of people come and go, and I'd assume that lots of them bail on the electric bill. The good news is that you'll make a little interest, and as long as you don't have a late bill you will get it all back at the end of your first year (IIRC).

On the good side, the average bill for the place you bought is only $155 a month, which is pretty good.

We recently switched to average billing, and are at $450 flat now.

They tried to pull that on us, and we argued our way out of it based on credit score.

That's what happened to us. They checked our credit rating and we didn't have to pay a deposit. Now Verizon, that's a bunch of con artists.

scots: i'm checking on that now. if one cannot get a credit waiver then that amount is returned after two years. what a rip! by contrast, my home in texAss averages about $30.00/month for electricity. sometimes my bill is under $20.00. when i get to florida, i'm going to insulate the heck out of my house. there's NO WAY, i'm having 3 or $400 utility bills. that's a house payment!

Maybe you should stay in Texass... as you call it....LOL.

You can insulate all you want, most people especially those from the north think they're saving on heating bills.

When you have to run the A/C 24/7 most of the year it costs money. And wait till Cap and Trade starts.

Depending on the size of the house you are going to be looking at electric bills in the three digits here.

There is really no way around that.

Yep. People even leave their system running on low when the homes aren't occupied. During the summer, with the seasonable people away, Sw Florida is full of unoccupied homes with the AC running. It's crazy, but the alternative is to risk having serious damage done to home and contents from mold.
