Despite being recently diagnosed with cancer, we are going ahead with our plans to move to Sarasota this year. Are there any good hospitals or cancer specialists there that someone could recommend? Once treatment begins I can take my records with me but would need to contact a good cancer specialist immediately. Can anyone offer advice or a recommendation?

a friend of ours has travelled from the UK to Florida for cancer treatment, I will try and find out where he is being treated and let you know. they are very impressed with the quality of treatment.

as the husband of a cancer nurse and someone who has recently seen a friend through bad times , I wish you all the best. Good luck

I was treated for breast cancer here. My oncologist was Dr. Audeh, very straight-forward man who has an excellent bedside manner. Florida Cancer Specialists on Golf St. downtown. My radiation oncologist is Dr. Gray Swor, she too is the best at her field and is very caring and talented. She is at 21st Century Oncology on Fruitville. When I was in chemo I found that there are many, many people being treated in Sarasota. For one thing, when I was bald I noticed there are a big bunch of us baldies here so I didn't bother buying a wig.

Dr. Audeh is 941-957-1000 for hematology/oncology. Dr. Swor is radiation oncology and her # is 941-364-8887. The choice for surgeons here are for breast- Dr. Novak at 941-917-6300 or other (colon, etc) is Golub at 941-341-0042.

PM me if you have any other questions.

Mary

Can you say what type of cancer? If it's prostate I'd like to private mail you who NOT to go to. Someone we know is seriously injured by their treatment.

Thank you, but I'm a female. Actually the slides are being sent for a second opinion to another Hosp's Lab, so we're not 100% sure what type it is. It contains estrogen receptors yet it was found in my lower abdomen attached to the outside of my colon. It is not colon cancer. Mamograms in the past have been negative. It just goes to show you you don't know what tomorrow brings - you can't know what's going on inside you - until you have symptoms.

I have to have some kind of scan of my breasts (not a mamo) next week to see if it originated there. Up to 10% of breast cancers are missed. Scary stuff.........
