Hello Everyone,
We will be moving to Savannah soon (from PA) and are looking for a safe neigborhood in which to buy a home. I will be working at SCAD, but don't mind a half hour commute. We can afford a home in the $250,00-350,000 range. Any suggestions for me? It would be great to be close to the beach, but we need space for my husband's workshop and studio...and he likes to play his music loud.
Thanks!

You can afford to live almost anywhere. No big deal. Unless you want to live on the fringes of downtown, neighborhoods in your price range will not be filled with gangsters and thugs. Of course, places like Ardsley Park can attract thieves who live nearby. But I wouldn't call them "unsafe".

Take a few minutes and read some of the other threads.

In the meantime, I'm thinking of making and selling a map for all you folks who claim to be moving here which shows a local's interpretation of safe and not safe. LOL

Your hardest task will be finding a neighborhood that isn't going to mind your husband's loud music. for that reason, I'm going to suggest that you think about the western areas of the County. It does mean a commute, but you might be able to pick up a couple of acres.

We always tell anyone coming in to rent for at least six months until you find the area that really suits. That price range will get you into quite a few nice areas, but you need the space for a workshop/studio.

Now, the problem with safety......drive around the neighhood near the area that you are interested in. It's not hard at all to see those places that you really don't want to live.

How do the neighbors handle the loud music in Pennsylvania?
Most of the people moving in to Savannah are old and crabby
but on the westside, country would be enjoyed by all

Are school zones a consideration?

Smile Savannah Newbie

Hello Ya'll!
Well, here I am in Savannah and it is HOT! I think the best idea is to rent and see where we would like to live...I like that idea as right now I am having trouble finding my way around downtown! As for loud music, we have basements in PA and that combined with acoustic paels keeps it down to a roar....: ) I don't mind a commute either...Thanks everyone! Newbie

Forget about basements. The groundwater level is so high and the soil so sandy that no one digs basements for homes. Perhaps he could use the sound panels in an extra bedroom.

It is hot, isn't it!!!!! I don't envy your having to try and look around the city. We will probably have several more days of it.
