We are looking at different options and areas to relocate but not sure what direction to go. Resume's will be sent out and one prospective job interest is in Savannah. Can you tell me what the school districts are like? Is this a safe area to raise a family? What area's are better than others? We have 4 children, one who has a dis"ability" so great special ed services and programs in the state are a HUGE must, along with a great school. Thanks!

I have not had a school age child here, but my impression is the public schools are woefully worse than in the mid west. Many people put their kids in private schools. I believe the higher income areas have acceptable public schools if you can live near them.
I am familiar with Pooler, which is about 15 miles from Savannah and there are some well regarded schools here and also a wide range of price points in housing.

Schools are like everywhere else. Some are good and some are bad. A lot depends on the teacher your child happens to have.

People have been raising children here since 1744. Some families have had bad luck with the neighbor's kids. Others have managed to raise exceptional children. By "safe" do you mean from drive-by shootings or traffic accidents or trees falling?
If you let them swim in one of the rivers, there is danger of drowning. I hope you wouldn't plan on moving into one of the ghetto type areas, but I am sure you could tell one of them just by looking.

Good areas are scattered all over the Chatham County. Where you live will depend a lot on your income and life style. I don't mean to sound so picky, but really, we don't know anything about you and can't advise you well.

Do you want to be close to a church of a particular denomination? In a certain ethnic grouping? Some areas don't have any apartment or condo type housing, just single family homes. Near work? Or could you handle a long commute?
