Wow, I have just recently had occasion to visit many grocery stores between SC and Savannah area, and so I know this will be a very good thing. Harris Teeter and BiLo stores in Hilton Head are very nice, compared to the Piggly Wiggly stores.

I thought I had heard that Kroger had bought Harris Teeter, so maybe that was a rumor.

I also read that Kroger is in the process of buying out the entire HT chain. I just couldn't get confirmation of whether they plan to re-brand all the H-T's as Krogers, or if the chain will still retain its identity and simply have a new parent company. As for The Pig, they're just selling off some locations, and BI-LO and H-T decided to snap them up.

H-T stores will retain that name (no changing the name to Kroger). I think it's a shame to see the Pig go. The Victory Dr. store was always clean, had good deals on pork & beef and the absolute best variety of BBQ sauces in Savannah. While not based here, they were the (kinda) local chain store that provided shoppers a taste of the Lowcountry.

The Pig in Pooler is kind of old and in need of some oomph. I know they are behind the curve on technology. Of the three grocery stores here, it's the least nice. Assuming they keep the same employees, and assuming that BiLo makes upgrades to the store so it is like other Bilos, it will be a good thing. It could even give Publix a run for it.

According to someone I know who was once in the business, the Pig had one of the highest markups of all grocery store chains. Seems I heard they never marked anything at or below cost, which is a game many others stores play to bring in customers.

I've gotten spoiled food from them on at least two occasions and had to return it. How gross is that?
