No, two were shot by residents before they could be trapped and moved. Not much news since then.

I've lived in Florida for a long time (currently traveling in Georgia) and began seeing more coyotes over the past several years, probably because we've removed much of their natural habitat and food source. Lately black bears have been wandering into residential neighborhoods. In Naples a family found a bear sleeping on their screened porch.

When coyotes howl, it often sounds like dogs wailing. That's how they communicate with one another. Although I don't believe in leaving pets outside at night anyway, this is one reason I've asked people to take in their dogs & cats at night. Cats are fast, but studies have shown that, in many areas, coyotes are thriving on a diet of cats roaming the neighborhoods. Also, dogs that are restrained don't have any defense. In any case, I agree that any unusual sounds, especially when they mimic a cry for help, should be investigated.
