That would quite nice. One would think, with SCAD here it is due.

Do you think there would be enough mass to justify a store? One would think they have a very experienced team that qualifies cities to warrant a store. I think?

Just scrolling through their U.S. store list, it appears most of the metro areas they're located in have at least 500,000 people. The only exception I could find was Anchorage, Alaska, and very little proximity to a nearby store may have driven that location.

With Apple having stores in Augusta, Charleston, and Jacksonville, by just looking at population, it would seem Savannah's metro area is too small and too close to existing stores. In all reality, if someone is willing to get in a car and drive to Augusta just for the Apple store is debatable.

Now, Savannah is certainly trendy enough, and with a large Arts college like SCAD, I'm sure that is considered.

I've also heard that their would be challenges with space. They typically want a 6000 SF store and they want to attach a aluminum veneer to the exterior. They even did this in Charleston. So space and getting past the Historic Review Board may be an issue, as well.

And, in the end, they may just want to focus their resources on major foreign markets.

We don't really know what's stalling their decision to build a store, but I'm fairly confident they've at least looked at it.

I'm just surprised that Apple decided to build a store in Augusta as their first store outside of Atlanta in Georgia. Augusta and Savannah are somewhat similar in size, but Savannah has the tourist friendly walkable downtown, and the SCAD students that Augusta doesn't have.

But the Augusta Mall is pretty solid and the best in the state outside metro Atlanta.

True, Augusta has a nice mall but we have a very promising street level destination shopping district.

That's true as well but I'm guessing there has to be some critical mass in place first before Apple comes knocking. I could definitely see it though.

Augusta and Savannah are NOT similar in size. What is it with many C-D posters and city populations? Companies and their marketers (and just about everyone else) look at METRO populations. City populations within city limits are IRRELEVANT, as city boundaries are artificial constructs. People still live on the other side of the boundary line. In SC, legal annexation is very hard. Greenville, a metro of over 800,000, has the same city population it has had for 5 decades: around 58,000. But it's no little city of 58,000.

Metro Augusta has more than 580,000 people -- and 500,000+ is often the magic number. Savannah has just over 370,000 in its metro area, so it has not yet reached the magic number. Will Savannah get an Apple store? Not likely. A Costco? Nope -- you'll have to go to Augusta, Charleston, or Greenville.
