The design looks ok, but I will need to see more renderings of it before I make a final judgement. Should be a nice boost though for that area of downtown.

I am all for art, never appreciated it much until moving here. Not sure whether this idea will take off... but hopefully it isn't that expensive, not as much as that stupid $300 million arena. I am more excited on this though about restoring the Lost Square of Elbert. Also.. I just saw the design contract is $2 million. DESIGN!? That means they are charging 2 million to draw plans for a building? God I need to become a corrupt contractor on these city projects.

No need to be corrupt. Just learn how to fill out paperwork.

That and as long as you have NFBPA connections. Best not to get in to that, hopefully this will be smaller scale project, not too expensive. Seems like it could be nice. Hope they clean up the civic center sometime though, it's kinda decrepit. Wish they just renovated it instead of fleecing the city taxpayers blind for the new arena, that will be used for ???? (nothing). Maybe they could shoehorn some Civic Center cleanup / reno into this project?

You come up with some crazy, misinformed ---- considering you haven't been here long. You must be getting all of your public information from the comments section of the local paper.

Plans vs. design .... do you know the difference? I don ' t care where they put the bathrooms and the fire exists but I do care what that thing looks like as part of the environment it's to be part of. I'd want it to be a site that the public would like to go to. I would like it to represent what it stands for.

Got it?

I'm still trying to figure out what a cultural arts center is ... don't we already have multiple venues in this town that already serve that function?

I don't even know where to begin with this....

I'll just keep it simple by saying the current civic center is incredibly outdated, has ALREADY been renovated and is not nearly large enough for a city of our size. There are major events we miss out on because we don't have a large enough venue.

It will be used for many things.

Demolishing and building anew in a different location will also get rid of the massive parking lot and hideous building. The land it currently sits on can be reverted back to the original Oglethorpe plan as well restoring a square.

Not like this. It will probably be great, especially with as many independent artists as there are in town now.

Call Eilene Baker (the City's cultural affairs director) and ask her yourself. She gets paid to answer these sorts of questions.

ellie are you saying the City projects are all on the up and up? LOL. I think this is one of the more corrupt and racist cities i have lived in. yea I read the paper. where do you get your information? NFBPA runs this town. I have seen a few racist things in person in fact. I don't get why people are so hateful here considering how great this city is. But I would prefer to focus on this project. Instead of personal attacks. Design vs plan? No I don't know. 2 million sounds like too much for either, it looks like a rather small project. Is it a good idea? Do we need another cultural center and what is a cultural center anyway? I don't know, that is why I started the thread....
