No...

That is the reason I voted against it in the first place, the majority of the money was going to large highway projects that the only benefit is for the trucking industry. Sorry if it would be better for you, but one of the many dreams of the shipping industry has been to get a interstate to Augusta from the port. The federal study don't justify the expense of the project. Chatham county would be better off spending money redoing city streets and drainage issues.

Well, I voted FOR IT because the majority of the money would have stayed in Chatham County -- the biggest project on the list was the complete rebuilding and widening of all of I-16 and I-516, which is DESPERATELY needed and will take years to get done while waiting on state or federal funds.

But all of this is really for naught because, 1) It would require another act of the state legislature and a vote by the citizens of this region (whatever it is) to pass the issue again; 2) The three state regions that DID pass TSPLOST have are all seeing their collections come in WAY less than estimated, and they've had to adjust their project lists or postpone some projects altogether.

I remember they where talking about fixing 22 by widening the rode, putting in a couple of flyovers, redoing all the 95 exits, and other fixes out there. They were willing to throw in a couple of million for a bike bath btw. No mention of widening the rode to Tybee, fixing the Derenne mess, fixing the Abercorn mess, and downtown. Not to mention we have huge drainage issues.

I am fine with the 516/16 interchange the way it is.

Well then, I'm sorry we disturbed the rock you were living under... That interchange is so out of date, it's dangerous.

To the OP, TSPLOST is unlikely because of what Newsboy mentioned earlier in the thread.

I wish each county could have its own tsplost. It seems like the current system is 'sot up for you to fail!

not sure how it would be funded or whatnot but why the HECK does I -16 have only two lanes. Leaving the city every day is a parking lot. Generally I think traffic here is actually pretty good for a city .. but an interstate, I-16, from a city with only two lanes, that just seems inadequate.

I propose adding one more lane to I-16, going all the way from the end of 16 to the 16/95 intersection. I think by that point most traffic thins out pretty well, what's everyone think?

TSPLOST was originally supposed to be revoted on two years after for any jurisdictions that failed to pass it - I am not sure if that will happen though... it seems that some state legislators undid that stipulation. From all accounts I have read, the cities that passed it are not receiving low returns, but are currently building out all of their major projects as well as benefiting from the 25% local revenue stream - I remember reading recently that tiny Crisp County is receiving $100,000 a month for its local municipal share (that's in addition to the regional project list for counties to use for local projects such as paving/widening/sidewalks/resurfacing). I think I read Columbia County is adding sidewalk corridors down all of the major thoroughfares and connecting the large subdivisions.

At this time, there are several differently worded bills going through the state legislature that pretty much say the same thing - there are two ideas being discussed right now.

1) - Allow any two or more jurisdictions (counties, cities - another bill says just 'counties') to band together for a local TSPLOST to fund their own project lists - basically the same as TSPLOST 2012 but regions get to choose themselves rather than default to the RDC boundaries.

2) - Allow for fractional-penny SPLOSTs (basically multiples of 0.5) to be voted on for a range of project types, including some that can involve operating budgets.

While these are not ideal plans compared to TSPLOST 2012 - this is probably the best we can get in Georgia acknowledging the backwards/uninformed local electorate. For the larger tourism/commerce hub economies this will be great. For the smaller rural communities, it probably wont be any less opportunistic, but it will be less advantageous for EVERYONE since there will be less active regional planning occurring.
