We like good food, and we're looking for the hidden jewels that the Savannah natives go to. Seafood is our favorite, but I want to try the local foods as well. The tourist traps don't impress me, and I can't eat atmosphere. Casual, reasonably priced restaurants with great food.
Thanks in advance.

Soho South - downtown, Sweetleaf -downtown, Carey Hilliards -fried seafood -it is a local chain, but it is where you can find locals all day and into the night, Papa's - seafood -it is on your way to the beach on Wilmington Island. Most of the restaurants on River St. are tourist traps, but Vic's is great for a special evening and Huey's is good for brunch and a bloody mary.

Seafood IS one of our local foods. I believe you said you would be staying at the Courtyard on Abercorn. Get someone to point you to Eisenhower Drive. Go to the East (it changes it's name twice, but it the same street) until it dead-ends at Laroche Ave. Take a right and go just a little way until you see "Saltwater Grill." It's open just for dinner. Seafood, steaks, etc. Nice place.

Also, just a little farther South on Abercorn is Carey Hilliards. This is also a seafood restaurant for people that like good, well seasoned, shrimp and fish. Their onion rings are to die for!!

Follow the advice you got earlier on Saltwater Grille for Seafood. If you want to eat some of the freshest southern vegetables and delights you have put in your mouth go to a local restaurant called Sweet Potatoes at the corner of Eisenhower and Waters Ave. in Midtown. I live in Savannah and have tried many many places and this is my favorite for local food.

Default seafood

Is Pearl's still around? it's been awhile since I've been to Savannah, but that was one we enjoyed. And is Uncle Bubba's where Snappers used to be?

Pearl's is now The Saltwater Grill. And yes, Uncle Bubba's is where Snappers used to be. There has been several buildings built between it and the road, so that it's not visible from the highway like it once was.
