As AirForceGuy stated, the Census Bureau published its 2014 estimated population figures today for US Metropolitan Statistical Areas, with the Hinesville MSA and the Savannah MSA (in the same Combined Statistical Area) making population gains of +2.0 percent and +1.8 percent, respectively. What is interesting to me is that both cities led all the major Georgia metro areas in population gains between 2013 and 2014.

Percentage Growth in Population (2013-2014), Larger Georgia Metros

Savannah, +1.8
Atlanta-Sandy Springs-Roswell, +1.6
Gainesville, +1.2
Augusta, +0.6
Athens, +0.6
Warner Robins, +0.6
Valdosta, +0.3

Savannah gained the most in head count of all Georgia metros except Atlanta, with 6,600 new residents.

Percentage Decline in Population (2013-2014), Larger Georgia Metros

Macon, -0.4
Albany, -0.6
Columbus, -1.0

In a few smaller MSAs: Brunswick (+0.7), Dalton (+0.4), and Rome (+0.0).
