Port of Savannah breaks another record (2015, authority, business)

“Our container volume growth continues to exceed our expectations in light of last year’s unprecedented cargo diversions from the West Coast,” said Curtis Foltz, executive director of the Georgia Ports Authority (GPA). “Efficient access to market, proximity to major Southeast populations and GPA’s ability to quickly expand on-terminal container capacity are a few of the reasons for Savannah’s continued success.”

Total freight for February across all cargo sectors was 2.67 million tons, up 3.9 percent over February 2015, marking the seventh-highest monthly performance ever recorded.
As a result of such strong numbers month in and month out, the Port of Savannah recently became the nation’s third-busiest port for containerized cargo, behind only Houston and Los Angeles.
