OK - Sweet tea is the white wine of the south and is everywhere. Up here in MD they simply make "iced tea" which is something I do NOT care for so I've never been a tea drinker. I'm working on the sweet tea conversion however - making it at home and trying sips from my daughter's or my husband's sweet tea order. I must say it's not bad!

But let me ask:

On our last trip my daughter crowned Loc's Chicken and Waffles as her favorite sweet tea. I thought Spanky's on River ST was OK too. And by OK for me that means I can order one and actually enjoy drinking it. Baby steps...

We certainly haven't sampled EVERY sweet tea in the area (not could we ) but for folks who already call Savannah home - what restaurant, cafe, hole in the wall, etc place do YOU think serves the best sweet tea?

I know taste is subjective but I'd love to have a few suggestions to try in July when we come down again.

Thanks!

Both Parker's and Enmarket (local gas / convenience store chains) have great fresh-brewed sweet tea.

Zunzi's on York Street (walk up South African sandwich place) has an awesome sweet tea that's very light with a hint of coconut.

Avoid most fountain drink / fast food sweet teas, especially if it's the LIPTON variety -- though McDonald's and Zaxby's both have good fresh brewed tea. McDonald's even brands theirs MICKEY D's SWEET TEA.

At the grocery store, Publix store brand in gallon jugs is best HANDS DOWN.

There are a few places in town that have awful sweet tea that you should avoid, but I've blocked them from my memory. Let me think on it.

Bojangles has the best sweet tea of most any fast food place I know of. I've noticed that "straight" Mickey D's sweet tea is very good, but you can actually add a lot of water to it without it losing its flavor. I do this mostly to assuage some of my guilt for drinking so much of it.

Carey Hilliards has GREAT sweet tea. My sister refers to it as "liquid crack".

Buy Sweet tea?
Seriously.

Go to the store and buy Luzianne tea in the 48 bag Family size.
Get a gallon Mayonnaise jar.
put about 6 - 10 tea bags in the jar, fill with water.
Set it out in on the porch where it will get several hours of direct sun light.

At the end of the day, open the jar, remove the tea bags, and pour 1-2 cups of granulated Cane Sugar in the jar, close the lid, and swirl it around gently until the Sugar dissolves.
Put some ice cubes in a glass, fill with the tea.
Consume.
Put the rest of the tea in a pitcher, and place in fridge for tomorrow.

repeat daily.

Make sure to check your blood sugar regularly, though.

I have tried tea makers, store brands, etc and finally found Perfect Ice Tea | Hillbilly Housewife

6 to 8 tea bags
1 quart hot water (4 cups)
1 quart cold water (4 cups)
1/2 cup sugar or 1/4 cup honey, optional

You boil the water, then add tea bags off heat for exactly 10 minutes. No more, no less. Add to cold water with sugar. YUM.
